Meet the artist
abstract art for the 21st century
“My work explores the aesthetic between visual abstraction and music. I feel there is a strong connection between the rhythms of shape, line, color and music. As a professional musician for over 30 years, music has given me a wealth of insight and inspiration that I try to translate into visual art.
My art has energy and rhythm with a strict eye on the structured whole. Simple monochromatic forms through complex color abstractions simulate harmonies from simple solo instruments through to the complexity of complete symphonic and operatic works.”
As a visual artist that has been painting and sculpting for most of his life, David Tobey doesn’t just create art, but strives to create visual experiences. A Juilliard trained violinist, David has combined his love for music with skill in aesthetics to create a symbiotic bond between his two passions.
David uses colors and brushstrokes in the same way a composer creates music. Just as one can visualize music, David creates artwork that you can hear; pieces that convey rhythm, balance, composition, and movement to give the viewer an immediate, visceral reaction.
As an artist, David served as a Chairman on the New Rochelle Council of the Arts. His gallery shows have been located in Soho, Chelsea, Westchester, and Connecticut. His paintings and prints have been featured in Lincoln Center, the Juilliard School, the George W. Bush Presidential Library, the American Cancer society and are in numerous private collections.
Several of David’s pieces are able to be purchased as Digital Non Fungible Tokens on Rarible.com
